The primitive stronghold is now destroyed and had been rebuilt several times until the 16th century. Poet Joachim du Bellay was born there in the 16th century but nowadays the only remains of this era are the gatehouse, the chapel and parts of the curtain walls. 

Listed "Historical Monument" in 1941.
